At the beginning of December, 30 Year 9s travelled to Germany to visit our partner school, the Goethe Gymnasium in Ludwigsburg, as well as the beautiful historical university of Heidelberg.

Students enjoyed a highly entertaining guided tour of the opulent baroque palace built by Eberhard Ludwig, Duke of Württemberg. In the afternoon, they were warmly received at the Goethe Gymnasium. Students heard English teacher Herr Ralf Kellermann in a touching speech about how unlikely the establishment of the historic exchange between our two schools was in 1949, when two Jewish teachers initiated it. Students reflected afterwards of being part of this tradition, and of having the opportunity to build relationships through pen friendships with German students. They also felt that they had learnt so much language throughout the weekend. We look forward to hosting the students and teachers from the Goethe Gymnasium in March when we celebrate 75 years of exchange.
