The first half of the 2024 Spring Term may have been short but we packed in plenty of music.

It has been fabulous to see NLCS students make great efforts to step up their output over the past five weeks. We began in early January with our annual NLCS Sessions concert, providing an opportunity for those with a penchant for pop and rock to perform in the PAC.

Performances included songs by Ed Sheeran, Vance Joy and Taylor Swift. A week later we held our first Lunchtime Concert of the term, featuring wonderful performances by students in Year 7, including Les Ecureuils by Busser on flute, Jester’s Jig by Tan on piano and Rondeau by Mouret on viola.

On 31st January, our advanced performers from Years 10-13 treated us to a treasure trove of beautiful music at the Old House Recital including Scene de Ballet by Beriot, Concerto in D major by Chaminade and Elgar’s Cello Concerto.

We rounded out a busy half term with a major highlight of the year – our Chamber Music Concert. Our Music Scholars and senior musicians have been working with their ensemble coaches since September and presented professional quality music including Trios, Quartets and Quintets by Dvorak, Haydn, Beethoven, Danza and Schubert, with the concert finale presented by the Year 13 Octet performing the Mendelssohn Octet for Strings.

We will be back after Half Term when our programme moves up a gear – make sure you catch us performing Carmina Burana at Holy Sepulchre Church, Holborn on 29th February. Best wishes from the Music Department.
