Music Roundup – Spring Term

Spring Concert 2024 -3

The second half of a busy musical term saw the Music Department staff, students and ensembles completing final preparations and rehearsals for the grand performance of Orff’s Carmina Burana at Holy Sepulchre Church, Holborn on 29th February.

Then on Tuesday 12th March the Finals Concert for the South East Schools Chamber Music Competition was held at St George’s Church, Hanover Square featuring the top chamber groups from across Greater London’s schools. Our Senior chamber ensemble, formed of students from Year 13, performed the Mendelssohn Octet. On 14th March, all of the department’s ensembles got together for our Spring Concert featuring an impressive range of music including the St Paul’s Suite by Holst, an arrangement of Stevie Wonder tunes by the Flute Ensemble, Mambo Greats performed by the Wind Orchestra, with Sinfonia performing Oblivion by Piazzolla and the Chamber Orchestra presenting the first movement of Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony. This concert gave us a wonderful opportunity to honour our dedicated musicians of Year 13, for whom this was their final concert at NLCS. With a number of soloists performing as part of the French Soiree, the end of the Spring Term was marked by our annual Founders’ Day, featuring two of the department’s choirs. Best wishes for a wonderful holiday from the Music Department.
