On Wednesday 11th May, all three of this year’s NLCS Year 12 student companies took part in the Young Enterprise North and Central London Showcase and Competition Final hosted at Pearson Business College in Holborn.
This was the first major London round in this Europe-wide competition which challenges groups of students to set up and manage their own business to develop and launch a product or service. The standard set on the day was incredibly high, with all nine student companies presenting innovative ideas with passion, confidence and business acumen. In an exceptionally strong field, IRIS won the coveted ‘Best Teamwork’ award for their infectious team spirit, effective use of HR to manage disputes and challenges, and their embracing of project management tool Trello to help them to run their company and to successfully and productively manage their 18-strong team – a fantastic achievement.
And narrowly missing out on the award for ‘Best Overall Company’, Team ORNA came a brilliant, close-run second place to win ‘Best Company – Runner Up’ for their ethical and sustainable tote bags, impressing the judges with their all-round performance – praise for their trade stand, their professional presentation, their poise, knowledge and accuracy in interview, and for their energy and team spirit throughout the competition. Praise must also be given to Atlas Hoodies who received high commendation from the judges for their professionalism and dedication in this competition. The Best Teamwork award was almost theirs and they missed out only by the narrowest of margins to IRIS on this occasion.
Congratulations to all three NLCS teams for their sterling work throughout the year and their achievements in the competition final!
