Last weekend, our adventurous Year 9 students left behind the classroom and headed for the countryside as they took part in their Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award training expedition.
With rucksacks packed, maps in hand and a good dose of enthusiasm, they spent two days navigating through fields and footpaths, learning how to read a compass, pitch a tent, cook a meal outdoors, and perhaps most importantly, how to work together as a team.
There were a few creative route choices (and the occasional wrong turn), but that’s all part of the learning. Spirits stayed high throughout, the group pushing on with a great sense of humour and resilience.
Staff were hugely impressed by the students’ attitude and determination. The weekend wasn’t just about ticking off skills, it was about stepping out of comfort zones, building confidence, and rising to a challenge, which every single girl managed brilliantly.
The real expedition is just around the corner, and if this weekend is anything to go by, they’ll be more than ready for it.
