Y9 Adventure Week

Year 9 Adventure Week was an exciting opportunity to connect with different members of my year group, whom I hadn’t had much interaction with previously, as well as strengthen already existing friendships.

We were surrounded by a very encouraging and approachable team of staff from NLCS and the YHA Edale centre. They challenged us to constantly take that little step out of our comfort zone and approach activities that made us feel slightly uncomfortable or nervous in a positive manner. Throughout the trip, there were activities to partake in which never left us with a moment of boredom. My two favourite activities over the week were Jacob’s ladder and high ropes. These activities required us to work together as a team and support one another where we struggled through the tasks. Due to the very daunting height at times in both these activities, the encouragement and spirit of the rest of the group became crucial, and I feel that this really enabled us to all become closer and form friendships that have continued even after this trip. In my group, we particularly struggled with getting to the top of Jacob’s ladder, but we made sure that everyone managed to get to the point they wanted, not pushing people too far out of their comfort zone. I managed to get to the top of the ladder, but it wouldn’t have been possible without the group encouragement or the two people that climbed it with me. I really enjoyed this trip, and I wholeheartedly wish that I could go on it again.
