Last Friday, our Year 7 students took part in an exciting CSI Partnership Day with The Sacred Heart Language College as part of our Eureka Schools partnership programme.
Working in mixed school teams, students stepped into the role of forensic investigators for the day, tasked with solving the vandalism of a fictional treasured artwork. The challenge invited students to think scientifically, collaborate confidently and apply their learning in a new and dynamic context.
Across a carousel of hands on activities, students explored a range of forensic techniques including DNA extraction, chromatography, paint spatter analysis and hair microscopy. Each session required careful observation, attention to detail and the ability to interpret evidence thoughtfully. As the day progressed, teams began to build a clearer picture of events, testing hypotheses and evaluating competing explanations.
A particular highlight was the opportunity for students to interview suspects, developing the critical listening and questioning skills that sit at the heart of strong oracy. We were delighted to be supported by our sixth form students, who acted as suspects with generosity and commitment, helping to create an immersive and engaging experience. Interrogations were further brought to life by a sixth former in the role of Sherlock Holmes, adding focus, structure and a sense of occasion to proceedings.
The day concluded with group presentations, where students shared their findings, justified their reasoning and delivered their conclusions with confidence. One team successfully cracked the case, presenting a well evidenced solution before the end of the day.
Partnership experiences like this reflect our belief that learning is enriched through collaboration. By bringing students together across schools we create opportunities for curiosity, communication and ambition to flourish, extending learning far beyond the classroom.
