This term, our Year 3 cohort and language club have started WoLLoW (World of Languages, Languages of the World), a programme that invites learners to explore languages through curiosity, discovery and joy.
From the very first lesson, our pupils have been captivated. They’ve explored the history of languages, with a special focus on the roots and evolution of English, uncovering how communication connects people across time and place. In the WoLLoW Club, students have gone further by investigating the many ways humans express meaning. Recently, under the leadership of a talented Year 10 student, they learned the basics of British Sign Language and recorded a message to share with our school community. They also created a vibrant human body diagram showing the parts we use to communicate.
The WoLLoW resources have inspired curiosity and deep thinking in every session. They’ve encouraged our pupils to explore, question and make connections, bringing the study of languages to life in the most dynamic way.
We hope that this WoLLoW experience will give our students a strong foundation for future language learning and an appreciation that studying languages is much more than mastering words. It’s about engaging with new ways of thinking, embracing diverse cultures and building bridges of understanding and respect.
As WoLLoW reminds us, languages connect us all. They nurture communication, identity and empathy in an ever-changing world.
