On Wednesday, Med Soc enjoyed their final Science Café of the term welcoming Professor Ken Macleod of Imperial College London.
A Professor of Cardiac Physiology, Professor Macleod delivered a talk entitled, ‘Trying to mend broken hearts.’ Professor Macleod was educated in his native Scotland before spending two years studying at UCLA. Professor Macleod has held a variety of different academic positions within the National Heart and Lung Institute as well as Imperial College London. Alongside his work as Head of the Cardiac Function Section in NHLI he is also the Director of Conduct in the School of Medicine and chairs the Student Mentoring Group that oversees all aspects of undergraduate student conduct, professionalism and health in relation to fitness to practice medicine.
During his talk, Professor Macleod spoke about his career path as well as illustrated the multi-disciplinary interactions between the medical school, its associated hospitals, and science departments in Imperial College that brings together expertise to help us understand biological mechanisms in more detail and in turn produce novel treatments for disease.
Many thanks to Professor Macleod for visiting us and rounding off this terms Science Café with a thoroughly informative and engaging talk.
