As ever, the term has seen a range of trips and expeditions.
Trips are a key feature of our Enrichment programme and help to develop students’ subject interests and passions in numerous ways. Our annual English Literature Trip to Dublin, Spanish Trip to Salamanca, Italian and Classics Trip to Rome, and French Trip to Normandy all helped to enhance students’ learning and nurture an interest beyond the confines of the curriculum. The Year 9 trip to Stratford-upon-Avon was another highlight, bringing texts to life and deepening students’ appreciation of literature in its historical context. We also had the second ‘leg’ of our Ludwigsburg Exchange and students had a lovely time with their German counterparts as part of this historic programme. These experiences provide learning opportunities that are invaluable to students.
The trips programme also develops students’ resilience and engagement with the world around them and our several DofE Expeditions this term have all allowed students to take part in some demanding walking and trekking routes. Meanwhile, Year 8 Adventure Week offered students the chance to challenge themselves in a different way, building confidence, teamwork and independence through a variety of outdoor activities.
As we turn to the summer, we have our Zambia and Botswana Trip across the first three weeks and two further DofE Expeditions. Across the term, our day trips also provided cultural experiences for students, with Y12 students heading to the ROH to watch the production of Le Nozze di Figaro as part of their music, history or language studies. The Y10 Symposium this year took place at QE Boys’ and allowed students to explore their subjects through an interdisciplinary lens, as did the Mandarin Trip to the British Museum and the Philosothon Competition at Stowe.
