The MFL Department recently welcomed students and staff from 15 schools for the Regional Translation Bee Competition, an exciting event celebrating linguistic skill, confidence and quick thinking.
The Translation Bee is a national language competition for Year 8 and Year 9 students, challenging participants to translate as many sentences as possible within one minute into German, Spanish or French. Competitors are judged not only on accuracy, but also on the quality of their pronunciation and fluency under pressure.
The regional event brought together some of the strongest language students from across the area to compete in a series of live rounds. Throughout the competition, students demonstrated impressive resilience, concentration and enthusiasm for languages, creating a lively and supportive atmosphere for all involved.
We are delighted that five students from each language category successfully qualified for the national final, which will take place at the University of Cambridge in June. Reaching this stage is a fantastic achievement and reflects the dedication and hard work of all the students involved.
The event was a wonderful celebration of modern foreign languages and provided students with an invaluable opportunity to challenge themselves, meet other talented linguists and further develop their confidence and communication skills.
