Last week the First School plunged the school community into the wintery world of The Snow Queen.
Using Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale as inspiration, our NLCS version saw Rafi Resilient Reindeer having a very bad day. No matter what the other Learning Friends suggested, he could only see the negative. Izzy Initiative Iguana decided to tell him the story of The Snow Queen, and how Kai became unable to see the beauty and joy in life when he had a piece of the magic mirror in his eye. The story came to life and we followed Kai’s best friend Gerda on a journey to rescue him from the Snow Queen’s clutches, and Rafi realised that whilst his friends couldn’t take away the problems he was having, their love and friendship made everything easier to bear.
The play was a joyful collaboration between all the First School year groups; showcasing beautiful singing, acting , dancing and artwork. Reception performed their poems about the magic mirror and the sorceress’s flowers with charm and confidence. The Year 1 pupils danced expressively as snowflakes and northern lights. And Year Two demonstrated their excellent projection, focus on stage and characterisation skills as they acted the story and warmed us all with their important message about friendship.
