27 March 2025

Gym & Dance Show March 25-559

It has been an extremely busy term, filled with outstanding sporting performances. Over the course of the season, we have played an impressive 283 team matches.

A full overview of the autumn and spring competitive seasons can be viewed in the sports roundup.

Cross-Country
It has been a busy and successful term for Cross Country. In the Harrow Borough Cross Country Championships, the Junior Girls team placed 1st, and the Minors secured 2nd place. An impressive total of 13 North London students went on to represent Harrow in the Middlesex Championships. Special recognition goes to Jiatan, who was selected to represent Middlesex at the English Schools National Cross Country Championship—an incredible achievement!

For the first time, we entered the St Martin’s Road Relay race, where the Year 7 team placed 2nd and the Year 8 team finished 3rd. Congratulations to all runners this season!

Swimming
We have had three swimming galas this half term against Habs & John Lyons School, winning all. Over 50 students from Years 7-10 participated, and it has been particularly exciting to see so many Year 9s and 10s eager to compete in galas and challenge themselves. Our early morning swim sessions have been well attended, and we have a core of senior girls who regularly help with galas and timekeeping.

We will continue building on this success over the summer term and look forward to hosting and competing in the Harrow Schools Gala.

Lacrosse
The winter term was a fantastic one for our lacrosse teams, ending on a high note with strong performances in the end-of-season tournaments, including the National Schools Lacrosse Championships.

At National Schools, all teams improved on last year’s results, highlighting the remarkable progress made this season. Our 1st team led the way, winning the Division 2 title! The U15A team competed in Division 1, making a strong run to the semi-finals. The U14 and U13A teams both qualified for the Championship bracket, with the U14s reaching the top 16 and the U13s securing a top-8 national finish in their first National Schools experience!

Meanwhile, our U12A & U12B teams made their competitive debut in the Tri-County Tournament, both finishing in third place. We are also thrilled that seven of our players have been selected to represent the South East Women’s Lacrosse team in the Regional Tournament on 30th March.

Badminton
Badminton has had an outstanding year, with a 79% win rate, winning 34 out of 43 matches. A huge well done to everyone who contributed to this success!

Special congratulations to our U15, U16, and Senior teams, who remained unbeaten in the league this year—an incredible achievement! Our internal middle and upper/sixth form tournaments have also been a great success.

Cricket
Cricket is played all year at NLCS, and even before the summer term starts, we’ve had girls from Year 5 to Year 13 representing the school.

All year groups have competed in the MCC Indoor Cricket Championship against schools across London. A special mention goes to the U15 team, who secured silver at Lords, and the U13 team, who also took silver at the Middlesex Indoor Cricket Finals. We now look forward to the summer term with many more matches to come. Best of luck to all teams competing in the Middlesex County Cups and the School Sports Magazine National Cup!

Football
Football has also had an exciting year, with students from Years 7 to 11 representing NLCS in 10 matches across the autumn and spring terms. Everyone played with great commitment and skill, and we hope to see even more students involved next year.

Skiing
Twelve girls took part in the British Schoolgirls’ Races in Flaine. After some standout performances, we secured excellent results:

  • Katie won bronze in the U18 Combined Slalom and Giant Slalom
  • NLCS B team secured silver in the Unregistered Teams competition

Indoor Athletics
It has been a fantastic start to the athletics season, with the Year 7 team winning the Harrow Indoor Athletics Qualifiers and qualifying for the London Youth Games Final. The girls finished 6th overall—an outstanding achievement! Congratulations to our indoor athletes. We are excited for the outdoor athletics season ahead and look forward to competing in the Herts League Championships.

Artistic Sports
Our gymnasts have continued to impress with their vault and floor routines. Before Christmas, our Under 15 and Over 13 ISGA squads competed in the regional qualifying competition, successfully qualifying for the National Finals in March.

  • The Over 13 team placed 10th overall.
  • The Under 15 team placed 4th in both the team and group floor competitions.
  • Special mention to Alia, who finished 7th overall in the individual competition.

Netball
It has been a superb netball season, setting new records and new targets for next year.

The netballers have been incredibly busy, participating in block friendlies, County and Invitational Tournaments, and National competitions. The U12, U13, U15, and Senior teams all competed in the Middlesex finals after qualifying in the autumn term. The U13s reached the semi-finals but were defeated by St Paul’s at Highgate School. The Seniors, playing at LEH, went unbeaten all day and were crowned U19 County Champions for the first time since 1998!

The U12 B team reached the quarter-finals of the SNS National Bowl competition before being beaten by Colfe’s School. Additionally, the U12 and U13 C/D teams both placed second in the first ‘Emerging Teams Tournament,’ which was hosted by NLCS, demonstrating the growing depth of talent within the school.

Finally, we would like to recognise the achievements of our outgoing Year 13s. Between them, they have played in National Cup Finals, National Finals, and Regional Finals multiple times, and they are the current County Champions. Their dedication and success leave an outstanding legacy for the younger netballers at NLCS.

A huge congratulations to all our athletes on an exceptional term of sport!
