Reception had a wonderful visit to The Wallace Collection in January, immersing themselves in the world of art and history

Inspired by Queen Victoria by Sully, the girls explored how the artist conveyed her emotions on the day of her coronation, looking for clues in the painting to imagine how she might have been feeling. Using this as inspiration, they created portraits of their own special people, setting them against landscapes influenced by Rubens’ Rainbow Landscape.

During their visit to the extensive armoury, the children had the exciting opportunity to handle pieces of armour and chain mail, sparking their curiosity and deepening their understanding of historical battle wear. As they explored the gallery, they were encouraged to look closely at the highly decorative pieces of armour, which inspired them to design intricate patterned frames for their artwork.

After the highly anticipated picnic lunch, the children set off on a tour of the gallery to find ornate clocks. These exquisite examples really captured their imagination, leading to a collaborative project to create their own gilded designs. Parents will have the opportunity to view these wonderful clock creations in the shared area on Exhibition Saturday.

Throughout the day, the girls showed great enthusiasm and curiosity, making the most of this inspiring experience.
