Reception had a wonderful day recently when History Off The Page came in to run a seaside workshop that was anything but ordinary. The first school hall was transformed into “Edgware-on-Sea”.
The highlight for many was the traditional Punch and Judy show, a classic piece of British seaside history that had the girls completely captivated. There were plenty of laughs along the way, and it was a brilliant way to bring an old tradition to life in front of them.
The girls also got to explore a collection of old cameras and coins, which sparked some great conversations about how different everyday life used to be. Getting to actually hold and look at real artefacts always makes history feel that little bit more real. The games were also a favourite amongst the pupils. Roll a penny and hook a duck kept the girls thoroughly entertained, and it was lovely to think that children had been playing the very same games at the seaside for generations.
