Our Senior Production of The House of Bernarda Alba delivered a bold and ambitious interpretation of Lorca’s tightly wound drama, with the cast demonstrating sharp focus and a clear command of the material. It was a production that asked a lot of its performers, and they met those demands with confidence and conviction.

From the outset, every cast member was immersed in the world of the play. Performances were controlled yet expressive, allowing humour, everyday detail and emotional intensity to coexist without ever feeling forced. The shifts in tone were particularly impressive with the company moving with ease between lightness and simmering tension, giving the production a dynamic pace that never faltered.

The physical sequences to a haunting soundtrack stood out as some of the most striking moments of the evening. Carefully choreographed and precisely executed, these scenes distilled the rising pressure within the household, offering a visually powerful expression of the play’s central conflicts.

The production built steadily towards its final moments, which were handled with striking composure. The climactic scene landed with real force with the shock immediate and visible in the audience, a clear indicator of how well the tension had been calibrated throughout.

Design choices strengthened the impact of the performances without overwhelming them. The white, minimalist set provided a stark and elegant frame for the action, while bold lighting carved out moments of contrast and unease. Sound design was used intelligently, adding depth and atmosphere where needed, but always in service of the drama.

What resulted was a disciplined, compelling and a confidently realised piece of theatre. The cast, crew and director, Mr Alaru can be credited with delivering a production that combined ambition with high‑quality execution and performance that held attention from beginning to end.

Huge congratulations to all involved.
