North London Collegiate School has been recognised as one of the leading sporting schools in the country, ranking 7th amongst girls’ schools and 41st overall in the School Sports Magazine Top 200 Sports Schools list. This outstanding achievement places NLCS firmly in the top 2% of all sporting schools nationwide.
The improvement from last year’s position of 195th to 41st overall represents one of the most significant climbs in the rankings and reflects our commitment to sporting excellence. The ranking is drawn from qualifying competition results, with NLCS demonstrating exceptional strength in athletics, badminton, cricket, cross country, football, lacrosse, netball, skiing, swimming and tennis.
What sets us apart is not just success in individual sports, but the remarkable breadth of activities in which our students participate and excel. Our philosophy of encouraging wide participation has yielded impressive results, with 2025 seeing increased sporting engagement from students across all year groups. Notably, Year 7 achieved a 100% participation rate, demonstrating that our culture of sporting continues into the Senior School.
Behind this success lies the dedication of our sporting staff, who have been instrumental in preparing students to pursue excellence across so many different codes. Their commitment to developing well-rounded athletes rather than focusing on a single sport has created an environment where every student can find their sporting passion.
Geraldine Castle, Director of Sport & Exercise, reflected on the achievement: “Being recognised once again amongst the top schools for sport is an immensely proud moment for NLCS. Our rise to seventh place in the UK for girls’ sport reflects far more than competitive success, it speaks to the values that underpin everything we do. At NLCS, we champion participation, personal growth and the joy of physical activity, ensuring that every student is supported to discover and develop her own potential. The breadth of opportunity across sports allows our students to thrive on the national stage. This achievement is a testament to the girls’ exceptional dedication, resilience and ambition, and to a community that invests wholeheartedly in inspiring a love of sport for life.”
