On 3-4 March, NLCS held its third Giving Day. Over the course of the 36-hour online fundraising event, along with activities at the School, students, staff, parents, Old North Londoners (ONLs), former parents, and friends came together to support the future of NLCS.

Giving Day is about far more than just raising funds. It’s a chance to highlight the power of philanthropy and bring the whole NLCS community together. The event encouraged donations, the sharing of messages and celebrating the spirit of giving. It was truly uplifting to see so many come forward to support The Work in Hope Fund, which will make a difference for both current and future students.

Thanks to the generosity of 257 donors, the campaign raised an incredible £277,538. This amazing total will ensure that the School can continue to develop key programmes that create lasting opportunities for its students. The funds raised will support initiatives such as The Bernice McCabe Bursary Fund, which makes an NLCS education accessible to more students, the Raising Voices & Surge Academy, which equips students with leadership and entrepreneurial skills, the Eureka Partnerships Programme to strengthen local school connections, and The NLCS Hardship Fund, which helps families facing unexpected financial challenges.

A key moment in the celebrations was the historic 17.5km run on 3 March, organised by staff. Led by Headmistress Vicky Bingham, three Year 11 students and eight members of staff retraced the journey of Frances Mary Buss, the School’s founder, running from Camden School for Girls to NLCS. This symbolic run marked the School’s milestone and helped unlock an additional £17,500 for The Work in Hope Fund.

No Giving Day would be complete without the ever-popular Teacher Lip Sync Battle, and this year was no exception. Staff from the MFL, PE, and Senior teams went head to head in a fun and energetic competition, performing hits like Laissez-Moi Danser by Dalida, Stop by the Spice Girls, and Roar by Katy Perry. With outfits ranging from animal onesies to drawn-on moustaches, and dance moves including the famous worm, the performances were spectacular. The PE department took home the crown after a truly memorable performance.

Meanwhile, the Junior School girls enjoyed a 175th-themed Treasure Hunt, embracing the sunshine as they explored the rich history of NLCS. Working together, the students solved clues that led them through different stages of their adventure. This engaging and educational activity aligned with our focus on outdoor learning, encouraging pupils to deepen their understanding of the School’s pioneering legacy.

Throughout the two-day event, multiple donors shared memories and reflections, highlighting the special place the School holds in their hearts. The Donor Wall became a space for heartfelt messages, with comments such as, “NLCS is more than just a school – it’s a family, and I’m proud to contribute to its continued success” and “The NLCS bursary fund allows girls from all walks of life to benefit from the opportunities this amazing school offers.” These messages perfectly capture the lasting impact of the bonds created at NLCS.

The success of the 175th Anniversary Giving Day shows the true strength of the community. With £277,538 raised, these funds will help secure the School’s future and making sure NLCS remains a place of excellence in education for many years to come.

Thank you to everyone who took part, and here’s to more years of transformation and opportunity.
