Over the past four days, our lacrosse teams have truly showcased their talent and determination at the National Schools Lacrosse Championships.
Our 1st and 2nd teams started off the competition over the weekend. The 1st team faced a tough draw in pool play on Saturday, but despite the challenges, they fought fiercely and just missed qualifying for Division 1. However, on Sunday, they turned things around in the knockout stages. With unwavering determination, the 1st team held Harrogate ladies College and Stowe School to zero goals in the quarterfinals and semifinals. They then faced a good Queen Margaret’s team in the final. It was a close game until the end but the seniors pulled out a 2-1 win to win the Division 2 Final!
The 2nd team played with great skill and heart throughout the tournament. Although they narrowly missed out on reaching the knockout stages, their performance demonstrated significant improvement over the course of the year.
On Monday, the spotlight shifted to our u15 team, who played with great intensity and focus. Despite a solid showing in pool play, they narrowly missed out on advancing to the Championship group. The u15’s bounced back in the Quarterfinals with an impressive win over Queen Anne’s Caversham. Unfortunately, they were knocked out by a strong Bedford team in the semifinals of Division 1.
Tuesday marked the final day of the tournament, with our u14 and u13 teams taking to the field. This was the u14 team’s second appearance at the National Championships, while the u13 team was competing for the first time. Both teams played brilliantly, securing spots in the Championship group. The u14’s fought hard, attempting a dramatic comeback in the knockout rounds but were edged out by St. Albans High School in the Round of 16.
Meanwhile, the u13 team kicked off their knockout journey with an impressive 4-1 victory over Bedford. In the quarterfinals, they faced a tough St. George’s Harpenden team. After a thrilling match, which saw NLCS score a last-second goal to send the game into overtime. Despite their best efforts, the u13’s were ultimately defeated in the second round of overtime.
We could not be prouder of the incredible performances across all age groups. The u14 team finished in the top 16 in the country, and the u13 team finishing as a top 8 team in the country. Each team demonstrated remarkable growth, skill, and determination. This tournament showcased the strength of our players and the hard work they’ve put in throughout the season.
Congratulations to all the teams, we cannot wait to see what is in store for next year’s championships!
