The final Half Term of this academic year began quietly from a musical point of view but gradually built up pace as we headed into our Summer Concert on 27 June.
It was an evening of musical luxury which included our orchestras performing music such as the inspiring Symphony No. 40 by WA Mozart, the glorious Henry V Suite by W Walton, Handel’s intricate Concerto Gross Op. 6, all contrasted with a selection of greats by Glenn Miller. The choirs enchanted us with Monteverdi, Purcell and Dolly Parton! Our small ensembles graced us with wonderful music including a lovely piece by the Guitar Ensemble composed by one of our own guitar teachers.
Following the termly ABRSM instrumental and singing exams was a Lunchtime Concert highlighting solo performances by students in Years 7-10, including music by Mozart, Granados and Bernstein. During the Summer Festival week some of our ensembles continued last year’s new tradition of Pop-Up Performances, with the Baroque Orchestra, Guitar Ensemble and Vocale performing outside the Dining Hall and in Old House.
We were very pleased to introduce a new Recital to our Old House Concert series on 8th July, featuring the advanced musicians from NLCS Junior School. They performed in our Drummond Recital Room with impressive professionalism, diligence and energy. Finally as we reach the end of term, the Choir and Orchestra begin their Italian tour to Lake Garda, Verona and Venice. Happy Summer to all from the Music Department!
