The Summer Term has been filled with exciting musical experiences, giving pupils countless opportunities to perform, create and work together. From composing workshops and ensemble rehearsals to concerts and national festival invitations, the past few months have highlighted the enthusiasm, talent and dedication of our young musicians.
Our summer programme began with an inspiring Year 6 composing workshop led by renowned composer Joanna Forbes L’Estrange. The girls created their own songs and wrote the incidental music for their production of Tom’s Midnight Garden, recording and performing their compositions as an integral part of the play.
A particular highlight was our Summer Concert, Waka Waka, a vibrant musical journey around the world. Inspired by the FIFA World Cup, the programme featured songs, rhythmic body percussion and instrumental performances celebrating a rich variety of musical traditions. Bringing together our choirs, ensembles, soloists and instrumentalists, the concert was a joyful occasion enjoyed by performers and audience members alike.
The season concluded with our Junior Teatime Concert, where some of our most accomplished musicians captivated the audience with a varied programme of classical and contemporary repertoire. We were also delighted that Canons Choir received invitations to perform at both the Music for Youth National Festival at Birmingham Symphony Hall and the International Children’s Choir Festival at Holy Trinity Church, London, this July. These invitations are a wonderful recognition of the choir’s continued excellence and commitment.
It has been another remarkable year of music-making, marked by creativity, collaboration and exceptional accomplishments. We are immensely proud of every pupil who has embraced these experiences with enthusiasm and dedication, and we look forward to celebrating many more musical milestones in the year ahead.
