Choirs-29

The Spring Term at NLCS has been filled with exciting musical achievements, from inspiring workshops and masterclasses to outstanding performances by the Canons Choir and Year 6 students, ending in a 175 anniversary celebration at St Paul’s.

In January, Year 6 took part in an inspiring composing workshop with Fraser Trainer. He encouraged the girls to improvise and create a new piece linked to Homeland by Nitin Sawhney. Just after the half-term break, we were thrilled to welcome Amy Bebbington, Director of Training for the Association of British Choral Directors and co-founder of the London International Choral Conducting Competition. She delivered a fantastic masterclass to the Canons Choir.

During the first week of half term, the Lower School was filled with wonderful music as 220 girls each performed a solo piece at their class concerts. From a beginner trumpeter demonstrating how to blow a raspberry, to a Grade 7 piano performance of New Kid, the variety and talent were exceptional. On 27th February, Year 6 girls showcased their musical talents in a special soloists’ evening concert, performing a range of instruments and musical styles, from the classical Sicilienne on cello to the pop sound of Sheeran’s The A Team.

In March, the Canons Choir once again triumphed in the Barnardo’s Junior Choir of the Year competition for the third year in a row. On 11th March, the Lower School Small Ensemble Concert offered a musical feast, with over sixty girls showcasing their talents. The programme included performances on a wide range of instruments, from brass and saxophones to bassoons, as well as a large guitar group, ensuring there was something for everyone.

The highlight of the term was undoubtedly the 175th anniversary celebration at St Paul’s, where Canons Choir had the privilege of performing for Founder’s Day. It has been a truly busy and enriching musical Spring Term.
