Modern Languages Teachers’ Conference

ISMLA Conference

On 26 January, NLCS was privileged to host the annual ISMLA (Independent Schools Modern Languages Association) teacher conference.

The school was abuzz with teachers from all over the United Kingdom, and delegates had an exciting time exchanging ideas around important issues in modern language teaching. Exhibitors representing exam boards, travel companies, cultural institutes and pedagogical products enjoyed networking, and teachers came away with fresh inspiration to see them through the academic year. Delegates were especially encouraged by the words of support from Headmistress Vicky Bingham, and the engaging talk by Professor Tom Wynn from Durham University. They articulated the vital importance of modern language study – especially at an advanced level – as young people navigate the uncharted waters of a rapidly changing world, where linguistic and cultural fluency are key to thriving in global careers, international collaboration, and an increasingly interconnected society.
