Last month, the inaugural international Mini NLCSMUN event brought together Year 6 students from NLCS sister schools in Dubai, Jeju, Singapore, and London for a week of spirited debate, learning, and cultural exchange.

The event kicked off on Monday with a warm welcome as delegates met each other and toured the Senior School. The Opening Ceremony featured a Q&A panel with the MUN Society, sharing their experiences from previous MUNs. After a quiz, delegates began their committee work, concluding the day with a talk from Benjamin Roberts, the UK’s current speechwriter at the UN, who offered insights on diplomacy and the significance of positive relationships.

Tuesday saw delegates deep in committee discussions, followed by the start of the General Assembly. The afternoon included an Art workshop and an exciting Crisis committee scenario involving an alien attack on astronauts in the International Space Station.

On Wednesday, delegates concluded their debates in the General Assembly and enjoyed an afternoon of cultural entertainment, including a viewing of Matilda the Musical and a capturing a glimpse of London from the London Eye.

The closing ceremony on Thursday featured Year 12 MUN Society students presenting awards to outstanding committees and delegations. Keynote speakers included ONL and Governor, Gaby Gower who shared her experience representing the UK in The Hague, and Patricia Rogers, an educator and internationalist from UNALASER, who spoke about peacekeeping and the power of connections. The week concluded with a magical visit to Harry Potter Studios, where delegates bid farewell to their new friends.

The first international Mini NLCSMUN was an enriching experience in diplomacy and current affairs, fostering connections among young global citizens. We hope this event has built connections that will endure and continue to flourish in the future.
