Hetty Feather

Year 8 students were transported back to Victorian London for a screening of the West End production of Jacqueline Wilson’s popular children’s book ‘Hetty Feather’.

The story follows the life of orphan Hetty as she sets out to find her birth mother and to save her step-siblings. The production was directed by Sally Cookson and the team behind the National Theatre’s acclaimed adaptation of ‘Jane Eyre’ which the students are studying in English Literature. The vibrant ensemble production set Hetty’s adventures against a tapestry of evocative folk music and used circus skills to stunning effect, including daring aerial acrobatics such as silk climbing and trapeze stunts. Students particularly enjoyed the production’s inventive comedy, with unexpected twists such as the ensemble morphing into circus ponies. When asked to summarise the show in one word, Year 8’s universal answer was ‘awesome!’
