This term has been exceptionally busy, with tennis, cricket, swimming, and athletics taking centre stage as our main summer sports. Despite the shorter half term, we managed to play over 85 fixtures—a remarkable achievement and a true reflection of the energy, commitment, and enthusiasm shown by both students and staff.
One of the key highlights was our Sports Celebration Evening, where we were honoured to welcome Olympic medallist Fatima Whitbread as our keynote speaker. Her inspirational and heartfelt address made a lasting impression on all who attended.
Earlier in the term, PE Week focused on dance, offering students the opportunity to explore afro beats, hip-hop, and contemporary movement. Working alongside a number of talented professionals, students embraced the challenge of new techniques and developed both their physical and creative skills.
The return of the ever-popular giant inflatable obstacle course brought plenty of excitement, with students and staff taking part in timed challenges.
Tennis
We’ve seen an excellent level of participation in tennis this term, with students involved in a wide range of competitions. Our entries in the LTA Year 9/10 and Year 7/8 tournaments, along with the inaugural SSM tournaments, led to strong performances across all age groups.
Special congratulations go to our Year 9/10 Division 2 team, who have reached the play-offs scheduled for September.
In the first-ever SSM tournament, our U16 team delivered an outstanding performance, securing a place at the National Finals in Bristol. After a day of intense and closely fought matches, the team finished in an impressive 3rd place. Congratulations to Theresa, Amaya, Maia, Aurelia, and Sara on this fantastic achievement.
Pamela Flower Invitational
This term saw 71 matches played as part of the historic Pamela Flower Invitational Singles and Year Group Doubles Tournament, with all matches leading to a coveted place in the finals.
Please join me in congratulating all of today’s finalists and players for their determination and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
Swimming
It has been another successful year in the pool, with strong performances across a number of galas. Well done to all those who have competed with such spirit and consistency.
This term, we hosted the Harrow Borough Swim Championships here at Canons, where our Year 7, 8, 9, and 10 teams all competed—and all four year groups were crowned Borough Champions. A special mention must go to the Year 9 team, who impressively won every single race.
Looking ahead, we are excited to be joining the Herts League next year, alongside our existing fixtures. Keep up the training over the summer!
Cricket
This has been an excellent year for competitive cricket at NLCS, with 34 fixtures completed and enthusiastic participation across all year groups.
This summer marked our first entry into both county and national cup competitions—an exciting development for the programme.
There have been many stand-out performances, including cup half-centuries from Shreya and Aleena, and a superb hat-trick from Arina. These highlights reflect the increasing depth and quality of talent across the teams.
Well done to all players for their dedication and contribution to a successful and enjoyable season.

Athletics
This year has been exceptional for athletics, with strong performances, excellent attendance at practices, and a host of personal bests achieved.
Both our junior and inter teams qualified for the Regional A Final of the Track and Field Cup. Against a high level of competition, the Inter team placed 4th overall, a brilliant achievement, and the Juniors secured 7th place.
Following the Harrow Athletics Championships, 11 students were selected to represent the borough at the Middlesex Schools Championships, where the standard of performance was outstanding. We are especially proud of Emma (300m hurdles) and Nilou (800m), who have been selected to compete at the English Schools’ Track and Field Championships in Birmingham. We wish them the very best of luck.
Sports Day Highlights
Congratulations to Jemison, who were crowned overall Sports Day champions.
We also celebrate three new records this year:
- Nilou, who broke the 800m record by 15 seconds
- Emerson, who set a new 200m record
- Martha, who broke the 300m record
And to those who took on the challenge of the 4-minute mile attempt—well done for completing it in a remarkable 3 minutes and 56 seconds.
