During Black History Month, our girls embraced the opportunity to explore and celebrate Black culture and history

In the lower school students form times, pupils reflected on how Black history is represented throughout the school year and revisited inspiring figures such as Althea McNish, John Blanke, Floella Benjamin, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Following this year’s theme, Standing Firm in Power and Pride, each class selected an inspirational individual to research. Their chosen figures included Marcus Rashford, Yvonne Conolly, Amina J. Mohammed, Vanessa Nakate, Walter Tull, Malorie Blackman, Simon Woolley, and Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock. Working collaboratively, the students created presentations for the school assembly, confidently sharing why their chosen figures continue to motivate and inspire others. The STEAM Club also contributed by talking about pioneering aviator Bessie Coleman.

In the First School, the girls enjoyed reading from the Little People, Big Dreams series, discovering the lives of remarkable figures such as Amanda Gorman, Olive Morris, Kamala Harris, Vanessa Nakate, William Kamkwamba, and Mae Jemison. Through these stories, they learned how each individual has helped shape the world and reflected on the positive change they continue to inspire.
