Autumn Highlights from the Music Department

RADIOSILENCEOCT2025-48

From quiet, but excited beginnings back in September when we all returned from the long Summer, up to a full frenzy of activity as we hit the October Half Term break, this past few months in the Music Department has been a time of rapid preparation.

Rehearsals have been in full flow, students working on an ambitious programme of music performance ready for the major concerts later this term. We did enjoy a number of smaller recitals and performances this past Half Term, including our first Lunchtime Concert of the year featuring musicians from Year 10-12 at the end of September. We heard a delightful set of performances including a movement from the Clarinet Concerto by Weber, a Sarabande from Bach’s Partita No. 2, with contrast from Anyone Else But You by The Mouldy Peaches. This year we were very excited to have been invited to participate in the We Have One World Concert in aid of Save the Children on 28th September. This was a wonderful opportunity for three of our chamber groups to perform on the stage of Kings Place in London. On 9th October, the Modern Language Department put on its annual Hispanic Theatre Festival and the Music Department was honoured once again to provide musical entertainment during the proceedings. One of our advanced small string ensembles presented music in a suitably Latin style, performing Oblivion by Astor Piazolla and an arrangement of the tango Por una Cabeza originally composed by Carlos Gardel. The buzz will increase significantly after Half Term with Scholars Recitals, instrument recitals and of course our two major Winter Concerts at the beginning of December. Do have a look at our Music Events brochure HERE to find out what is happening in the Music Department for this academic year.
