NLCS Excels in Bebras Challenge 2024

NLCS has received exceptional results in the prestigious Bebras Computing Challenge 2024. From Junior to Senior School, NLCS students have significantly outperformed national averages, with numerous participants achieving perfect scores and Gold Awards.

The Junior School students performed remarkably, with 61 Gold Awards secured from 232 entries, an impressive 26.3%, far exceeding the national benchmark of 10%. Additionally, 16 students achieved the maximum score, accounting for 6.8% of all entries. A remarkable effort given this is the first year the Junior School have taken on the challenge.

  • Year 6:
    • 18 Gold Awards (36.7% of the cohort)
    • 2 perfect scores
    • Average score: 174.4, surpassing the national average by 49.4 points
  • Years 4-5 (Castors):
    • 27 Gold Awards (27.8%, nearly triple the national expectation)
    • 5 perfect scores
    • Average score: 125.6, exceeding the national average by 23.2 points
  • Years 2-3 (Kits):
    • 15 Gold Awards (17.4%, nearly double the national expectation)
    • 9 perfect scores
    • Average score: 70.2, outperforming the national average by 9 points

Among Senior School participants, 307 students took part, and the results reflect the school’s consistent academic excellence across all categories:

  • Junior (Year 7):
    • 64 participants
    • 13 perfect scores
    • 4 additional distinctions
  • Intermediate (Years 8-9):
    • 168 participants
    • 5 perfect scores
    • 34 additional distinctions
  • Senior (Years 10-11):
    • 65 participants
    • 17 distinctions
    • Highest score: 204 out of 220
  • Elite (Years 12-13):
    • 10 participants
    • 4 distinctions
    • Highest score: 196 out of 220

NLCS students significantly surpassed the national and Middlesex averages, with scores consistently clustering at the top end across all categories. These results highlight our dedication to fostering excellence in STEM education and inspiring the next generation of computing leaders.
