Friends of NLCS - Classical Soiree

As part of the Friends of NLCS programme, the Classical Soiree was held on the 30th June 2011, which included a concert of ambitious and sumptuous piano and string music; featuring pianist Clélia Iruzun and the Ligeti Quartet. Mandhira de Saram, one of the members of the Ligeti Quartet and an ONL, is a violinist of exceptional talent, who is currently working professionally as a freelance orchestral violinist, chamber musician and a soloist. The audience were dazzled during the Ligeti String Quartet no 1 where the audience was caught up in the contrast between glacial stillness and manic activity, pizzicatos and gentle oscillations of the piece. Clélia Iruzun, current NLCS parent, played with striking originality and moved everyone with Chopin's Grande Pollonaise Brillante. Both quartet and soloist were received at the end by rapturous acclamation and applause from an appreciative audience.  Guests enjoyed returning to the school and catching up with old friends over drinks and canapés in the Athenian Cafe of the Performing Arts Centre.
