Two of our Grade VIII cellists, Evie Heyde (Yr 11) and Deni Teo (Yr 9) have been awarded positions in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain!
This is one of the world’s finest youth orchestras, which draws together over 150 talented musicians aged between 13 and 19 years each year from all over the UK. This prestigious opportunity will enable both girls to perform in Promenade Concerts at the Albert Hall and to be conducted by some of the world’s leading conductors, including Yan Pascal Tortelier and Tadaaki Otaka.
The girls competed against cellists nationwide in two gruelling rounds of auditions before hearing over the half term holiday that they had both being successful. “I’m really excited that I got in,” says Evie. “I wasn’t expecting to, and it’s an amazing opportunity to play with lots of really good people!”
Deni says, "There are so many amazing talented people there where doors could open to a lot of possibilities; you can explore many different types of music, and play to a very high standard.....and appear on TV!"
Mr Lawrence Haigh, North London Collegiate’s Head of Music, says that “We have not had a member in the National Youth Orchestra for nearly 10 years, so this is a remarkable achievement!”
