In October 2007, the girls of Yr 9 traipsed into school at 7.15 am to embark on a day of excitement, intellect and a whole lot of fun! During the two hour coach journey all the girls visibly perked up and soon the atmosphere in the two coaches was electric. As we neared Bath, we witnessed a breathtaking sight of valleys and hills, among which the beautiful town of Bath was situated.
When we finally reached Bath, the whole of Yr 9 rushed off the coaches, eagerly waiting to see what was in store for them next. As we were all ushered into the museum, we received audio headsets to inform us about what we were going to see. However, nothing could prepare us for the spectacular view of the Sacred Spring. It was then that we all realised why we had to wake up at six thirty in the morning! It made us think how two thousand years ago the Romans had lived a natural and simple, yet extremely lavish lifestyle. After the awe-inspiring view, the next thing to hit us was the heat. We could see the steam rising from the hot spring, and, as we drew closer, we could feel it ourselves. After we saw the Great Bath, we explored the inner part of the museum, and learnt a lot more about Roman Civilisation. We even got to meet some of those ancient people, but to my great disappointment they were only wax models!
Once we left the museum, we had a chance to explore the great city of Bath itself. We met the locals, visited the shops and tasted some items only made in Bath, such as the fudge! Sadly, we all had to gather up to retreat back to the coach, and end all the exhilaration for the day, though not without an energetic coach journey back home first! Overall, I think all the Yr 9 girls will agree when I say that it was an amazing adventure and it was rewarding to have this unique insight into the lives of the Romans.
