The Pergola will be restored to its former glory this summer!
Built in 1910, the Pergola was originally designed as part of the frontage of the House at Canons. It stands as part of a circular passageway of stone pillars and was created by C.E. Mallows, architect of the gardens that surround the school today.
A structural survey of all the school's buildings is carried out regularly. About 2 or 3 years ago it became evident that the both weather and time were taking their toll on the fabric of the Pergola. A comprehensive survey revealed that the Pergola was in need of specialist restoration. Architectural engineers advised that the requisite repair work would cost approximately £70,000. The school is very keen to maintain the marvellous grounds and buildings that make North London Collegiate unique. Some ONLs and parents have very kindly donated money to the restoration project.
Repair work will start at the end of the summer term. It is envisaged it will take around 7 weeks and hopefully the Pergola, restored to the time of Mallows, will be ready for the start of the new academic year.
