North London Collegiate is regarded as the pioneerĀ of women's education among England's schools. Founded in 1850 to give girls an educaton "equal to that of their brothers", the school has always educated pupils in an ambitious and scholarly way, whilst offering a vast rangeĀ of extra-curricular activities.
Located in the former home of the Duke of Chandos, pupils enjoy stunning surroundings including acres of playing fields. The founder, Frances Mary Buss, was headmistress for 44 years and was a notable figure in the struggle for the education of women in the second half of the nineteenth century.
