On Saturday 17th September NLCS hosted their annual Under 11 Netball tournament. 23 teams took part in an exciting competition. Every team played 9 or 10 matches in 2 sections - the first was randomly selected and the second was seeded with the top teams playing in group 1, the next best in group 2 and so on.
NLCS entered 3 teams this year: an A, B and C team. All our NLCS girls worked hard all day and listened carefully to feedback. Each girl made improvements throughout the day and implemented new ideas and tactics. The day was a huge success with all 240 players thoroughly enjoying the competition.
Many supporters came and enjoyed watching their girls play netball. Tea, coffee and biscuits were flowing all morning and despite the 10 minute rain storm spirits remained high. After the tournament all players, coaches and supporters were invited into the dining room for a delicious tea of sandwiches, crisps, cakes, cookies and more.
How did NLCS get on in the tournament?
The C team faced some tough opposition in the first section, playing four A teams and one B team. They made it into group 4 for the second section where they beat Notting Hill & Ealing High and Manor Lodge B. They finished 3rd in this section. Throughout the day the girls learned so much and made huge improvements both individually and as a team. There were a few girls who stepped in at the last minute to help create the C team - thank you to these girls!
C team: Cerys Gorring (captain), Lily Proudfoot, Ella Lane, Claudia Chiew, Beatrice Avanzato, Emily Sherwood, Jennie Packe and Shani Paun.
The B team won one game against Stormont A team, drew one and lost three in the first section of the day. They were seeded into group 3 where they beat Devonshire House B, drew with Edge Grove and lost two others. They finished in 4th place in their section. The team thoroughly enjoyed the day and were especially helpful with the clear up at the end of the day.
B team: Issy Simpson (captain), Jennifer Nio, Lewa Adebayo, Nadia Massoud, Darcey Goldstein, Maisie Laddie, Saskia Zandstra and Sophie Bernheim.
The A team had a tough first group. They won2 games, drew one and lost one. They missed out on the top group and were instead seeded in group 2. Here they beat Habs B, Devonshire House A, Notting Hill & Ealing High A, Channing A and drew with The Village A. This made them group 2 winners! The team improved their passing and decision making throughout the day and now feel motivated to work hard to improve. Well done the A team.
A team: Hannah Buluwela (captain), Kezia Levy, Cora Coggshall, Sarah Sayers, Minna Lane, Shreya Rajani, Anya Rajani and Rachel White.
