On Thursday 8th September, the Attorney General, the Rt. Hon. Dominic Grieve QC MP visited NLCS to speak to Senior Societies.
Mr Grieve entered parliament as MP for Beaconsfield in 1997 and held various senior shadow ministerial posts before being appointed Attorney General in May 2010.
In 2005 he was named parliamentarian of the year by the Spectator magazine. He has a particular interest in the field of civil liberties and came to prominence over the defeat of the proposal to detain suspected terrorists for periods up to 90 days without charge.
Mr Grieve spoke to pupils about his background in law and his political status as well as discussing a range of issues relating to current affairs. Students and staff were given the opportunity to ask questions. Topics covered included the August riots and the structure of the juridical system.
This was a fantastic opportunity for both staff and students. We thanks Mr Grieve for starting off this year's Senior Societies Lectures in such a positive way.
