Essay prize-winner...

Yr 13 student wins prize..

Vruti Dattani, an A2 Biology student, has been awarded a runner up prize in the National Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) annual human biology essay contest. The competition is held each year, with the aim of fostering an interest in communicating scientific information to a general audience and to help equip students for university life

Vruti’s essay, entitled 'Is the revival of tuberculosis in Europe likely to get out of control?' was selected from over 70 essays, from 22 schools.  She was judged to have “ successfully explained the lurking danger of TB and why for half a century it has not been a serious threat… but avoided exaggerating the threat and also described effectively what is being done to contain it.”

As part of her prize Vruti will spend a day at NIMR, seeing some of the most interesting aspects of a research institute.
