1968 ONLs 40 year

A reunion was held on 23rd September for the Old North Londoners' Class of '68. Some 32 ONLs returned to the school, some for the first time in 40 years.

These ONLs had two headmistresses when they were at school, Dame Kitty Anderson and Miss Madeline McLauchlan. Amongst the ONLs were the current Deputy Head (Pastoral) Mrs Barbara Pomeroy and Miss Helen Stone, Chair of Governors.

Many ONLs commented on how the school buildings have changed a great deal but the ethos of the school remains the same. The uniform has changed a great deal they said; it used to be very smart in brown and yellow and now it is more relaxed in brown and blue.

Anne Stuart remembered when she was at school and they had an outdoor swimming pool that was freezing cold! She felt the reunion made her ‘want to come back to school’. Jenny Searle, returning to North London for the first time in 40 years, was the youngest of five siblings who came to Canons.

The reunion was a day to remember with the ONLs meeting up with their old school friends, seeing the school as it is now and enjoying a full programme of events.
