Last month, the annual Oxford vs Cambridge Varsity Lacrosse Match was held at Parker’s Pieces in Cambridge. This year, the presidents of both the Oxford and Cambridge Womens’ Lacrosse Clubs were Old North Londoners; Claire Strauss (2005) of Trinity College, Oxford and Georgina Rose (2005), an Exhibitioner at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, respectively. At North London, the pair were captain and vice-captain of the school’s 1st lacrosse team.

The standard of play was very high, with team members from both sides playing at international level for England, Wales and Scotland. There were victories on both sides, with the Cambridge team winning the Women’s’ ‘blues’ 1st lacrosse match and the Oxford winning the most matches overall.
Claire commented that ‘varsity is always a special day’ and the Women’s 1st teams played ‘a really tough match’. This year, there were five Old North Londoners participating in the Varsity Lacrosse Matches, including Sam Mandel-Dallal (2005), who is the Cambridge Varsity secretary and the social secretary of the Ospreys, and Fran Wade (2008), who played for the Oxford women’s 2nd lacrosse team and won ‘player of the match’.
