Before half term the school took part in Science & Maths week. There was a wide variety of thoroughly enjoyable and interesting
A number of speakers visited the school to talk to the students about their experiences in the world of science and mathematics. Baraka Khan gave a talk on ‘Chemistry was their Life’ - a recently published book in which material from the North London Collegiate School Archive was used by the authors.
One of the week’s Senior Societies Lectures was given by Peter Nash entitled, ‘The Science of Hypnosis’. Peter Nash is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, and Chair of the British Society of Clinical and Academic Hypnosis. Pupils also had the opportunity to find out about potential careers with talks about the world of Scientific work from Mrs Muswell and of Mathematical jobs from Laura Jackson (the Outreach Officer from Queen Mary University, London).

Various year groups had the opportunity to attend workshops throughout the week. Yr 8 participated in a Risk Assessment road show. A number of Yr 9 students took part in a joint Forensic Science Afternoon with Bexley Grammar School in which the students worked together solving a police case using the principles of Chemistry.
The last day of this inspiring week saw a ‘Designer lab coat competition’. Girls had enormous fun designing a lab coat with a scientific design and theme. The winning entry will be displayed in the science department. There was also a joint Science Society and Debating Society balloon debate with the participants taking the parts of various famous scientists.
