French trip to Paris...

This year, Miss Bonnal and Mr Truglio took thirteen Yr 12 girls to the centre of buzzing Paris, to expose them to the bustling French culture and to improve their grasp of the language.

Despite the packed schedule, with a river trip down the Seine, a visit to the Musée D’Orsay and a look round the Opera House with its grand marble staircases and dome painted by Chagall. There was plenty of time for some retail therapy in the beautiful artistic Montmartre and more sales at the Galerie Lafayette. On the second night, we were fortunate enough to see Paris in all its lit-up glory, as we stood at the top of L’Arc de Triomphe, snapping photos of the Eiffel Tower as it twinkled against the night sky.

Having experienced French culture at a distance, we became part of it ourselves, as we were asked to be on stage during a performance of ‘Entre les Murs,’ a production in an intimate theatre about the difficulties of teaching and learning in a multi-cultural school. We also managed to squeeze in the time to stand outside the infamous Moulin Rouge, performing the can-can.

Enriching our appreciation of the French culture, with many visits to patisseries and the eating of too many crepes, we came away feeling we had not only gained knowledge of France and the richness of its capital, but had also had a genuinely fun time too.
