Dr K Nicholson & Miss M Tame

From The Headmistress

The School is very sorry to announce the following news:

Dr Kay Nicholson, Physics teacher and Academic Tutor, died suddenly on 21st December in hospital having been taken seriously ill at home. Dr Nicholson joined North London Collegiate in September 1999 and, in addition to teaching Physics, was responsible for The Sixth Form General Studies programme and many partnership activities with other schools such as the Winchester Symposium. She also had responsibility for elements of the International Baccalaureate programme including the Theory of Knowledge component. Dr Nicholson was closely involved with The Prince’s Teaching Institute, introducing a programme of teacher training for state school science teachers.

The funeral was held on Thursday 8th January at Breakspeare Crematorium, Ruislip. (Family flowers only, donations may be made to the cancer charity Myeloma UK). Messages of condolence may be sent to Kay's ex-husband Brian Wolfenden and their son Mark c/o 37 Shepherds Way, Rickmansworth, Herts WD3 7NN.

Shortly after the end of term, Miss Mary Tame died, aged 87, following a brief illness. Miss Tame joined North London Collegiate School as a Mathematics teacher in 1953, later becoming Senior Mistress. After her retirement she took on the role of Honorary Horticulturalist and tended the gardens at Canons, particularly the herbaceous borders, every week for nearly 30 years.

The memorial service will be held at 11.30 a.m on Friday 23rd January at St Edmund the King Church, Pinner Road, Northwood Hills, HA6 1QS.

The family have requested no flowers should be sent; however, any donations may be addressed to The Children’s Hospice South West. This is a charity which was setup by an ONL and which Mary actively supported.

Dr Nicholson and Miss Tame both made enormous contributions to the school community and they will be greatly missed by their colleagues and friends.
