Lauren Davidson (ONL 2007) of Christ's College has been chosen as President-elect of the Cambridge University Union for the Lent Term of 2011.
Lauren writes "the role of the President is to organise the term's debates - eight in all - and to be the leader of the Union and its standing committee. I will also oversee the work of the other officers to ensure we have a term packed with high profile speakers and exciting events to keep our many members happy!
I've not actually done any debating at the Union but I went to a lot of the events in my first year and really loved the place, and was appointed as Press Officer in the first term of my second year. At the end of that term I stood for Executive Officer and enjoyed inviting speakers and hosting events and wanted an even more active role in doing these jobs so I stood for President! It was a really long and tough campaign as I was up against two other candidates and obviously we've all had exams and May Balls lately too, but I'm relieved and ecstatic to have won and am really excited for my term!"
Lauren says that her list of ideal guest speakers would include President Obama, Spice Girls and Heston Blumenthal.
