ONL INAUGURAL PICNIC & TENNIS DAY

ONLs demonstrated British stoicism to brave the rain and enjoy an afternoon picnicking and watching tennis at Canons.  Visitors included Frances Impey (nee Campbell 1960) who had travelled up from Plymouth to stay with her sister Alison Miller (nee Campbell 1964) to come to the picnic and Mrs Naomi Rose (nee Rabson 1943) who enthralled us with her personal recollections of the school at Sandall Road and the move to Canons.

A number of ONLs brought their families to celebrate Father's Day at the school and the sounds of corks popping softly under colourful umbrellas jostled with the regular batting beat of the tennis players battling it out on the South Courts.

Five pairs competed in the tennis tournament with ONLs Fiona Halstead (1980) and Sheena Cogger (1982) taking home the winners prize of a bottle of champagne and a picnic blanket.  Runners up were Year 12 students Urvi and Anamika who each received a flower basket.

Special thanks to Mrs Ansell, Head of PE, and Charlie De Cock (Yr 12) for giving up their Sunday to run the tennis tournament.  Also to NLCS Marketing & Development Director, Jeremy Wilson ably assisted by his daughter, Evelyn, for presenting the prizes.

Despite the variable weather, the picnic and tennis tournament proved a successful new addition to the ONL event calendar and will be back by popular request next year.  The date for next year's event will be posted on the school website and published in the next issue of ONLine magazine.

The School is keen to maintain strong links with ONLs and the Alumnae Office looks forward to welcoming you back to Canons for next year's picnic and tennis tournament.
