Three NLCS musicians recently performed with the highly acclaimed pianist Lang Lang as part of Lang Lang Inspires: Young Pianists Week, a major project at the Southbank Centre focusing on young musicians of the future.
Cassandra Yong, (Yr 13) and Aisha Goodman (Yr 7) were selected to join Lang Lang on stage at the Royal Festival Hall on Sunday 22 May for a massed piano event. Cassandra and Aisha were selected from hundreds of other hopefuls.
Maria Clara Martins (Yr 10) also played at the Southbank event on Saturday 21st May. Maria has recently been selected to join the Youth Orchestra of Bahia. This orchestra accompanied Lang Lang as he performed as soloist in a programme of concerti chosen by him.
Anoushka Sharp, a member of the National Children's Orchestra has been selected as one of the finalists in the Emunah Young Musician of the Year Competition. Speaking in an article for the Jewish Chronicle she said she has aspirations to be a world-renowned cello soloist. "I think that it is important to have ambitions. I am incredibly lucky to have talented musical friends at North London Collegiate School who I play regularly with. I get a huge buzz from performing. Applause - it's addictive."
Maia Béar (Yr 9) has been selected for the National Youth Choir (South) performing for the first time in the Birmingham Symphony Hall on 17th April.
Kiara Kottegoda, (Yr 9) has been allocated a place in the Barbican Young Orchestra in the first violin section. She will be performing on Sunday 3 July 2011 at the Barbican Hall where Edward Gardner, Music Director of English National Opera, will be conducting.
