The sound of ‘Happy Birthday' filled the Drummond room yesterday afternoon! NLCS had the pleasure of hosting a birthday tea party for a special Old North Londoner, Connie Hurran (ONL 1929) who will celebrate her 100th birthday on Saturday. Since leaving in 1929, Connie has kept a close link with the school community; being involved in the Old North Londoners' Association and attending numerous reunions and performances at the school. Guests at the champagne tea included friends and family members as well as ONLs, former staff including the previous Headmistress of NLCS, Mrs Clanchy, present staff, former governors, governors and pupils.

The celebrations commenced with a toast to Connie from Mrs McCabe before a grand birthday cake was presented to Connie. The Year 6 chamber choir then sang beautifully a song written by Franklyn Gellnick, the son of an Lilian Gellnick (ONL 1951). Connie received a number of thoughtful presents including a pottery Buss ship which was made especially for her by Mr Hardy, Head of Art, a beautiful daffodil bouquet and a book filled with messages and photos from the Junior School.

It was a very special afternoon with so many members of the school community coming together to wish Connie ‘Many Happy Returns'. As Holly O'Connell (ONL 2003) explained, the day saw ‘the bridging of different generations'.  Connie summed up the memorable afternoon by declaring that she ‘would like to thank everyone for organising today's wonderful events'.
