Year 5 meets the architect
This week Year 5 had a visit from Maurice Van Eijs, Director of Design at Swanke Hayden Connell Architects and father of Anna in 5W. The girls in year 5 are at the start of an exciting project using ‘Google Sketch Up' software to design their own 3D art galleries, and Mr Van Eijs was kind enough to visit the class in order to share some of his own design work using 3D design software.
In an animated and lively talk Mr Van Eijs shared the process he had gone through to create two projects, as well as giving the girls insight into a third project that he is currently working on designing a children's hospital ward. Architects use a variety of materials and the girls were able to explore samples of interesting materials that are used in different buildings. The two classes asked some insightful questions and were able to give Mr Van Eijs some suggestions of their own! The session was inspiring and we look forward to seeing the galleries that the girls produce.
