Connie Hurran (ONL 1929) visited the school on 17th March, a bright spring afternoon, to talk to Yrs 2 and 5 students about her time at the school and to help them with their preparations for this year's Founder's Day play.
Pupils were highly entertained with stories from Connie's past, including memories of a trip up Canons Drive from the tube to have a look around the grounds, followed by a tasty tea with the then Headmistress, Miss Drummond, at the Express Dairy. The girls learned that school started at five minutes to nine and ended at one thirty every day but pupils were expected to remain in school for two afternoons a week for sports activities.
They were most amused to learn that Miss Drummond had a special low chair that any naughty girl was required to sit upon when summoned to the Head's office to explain herself! Miss Drummond, meanwhile, sat in splendour in her much higher chair looking down with only the faintest look of disapproval on her face! A forerunner to the modern naughty step.
In the picture Connie is joined by two girls from Yr 2 and Yr 5 who will be playing the parts of Connie Hurran and Miss Drummond in this year's Founder's Day play.
