Music for Youth Festival
On the last day of the summer term, four very talented Lower School cellists missed all the fun and excitement, in order to represent North London Collegiate in a very prestigious music festival.
Anoushka Sharp, Madeleine Kearns and Dorothy Chan (6R) and Cerys Gorringe (5W) played a beautiful piece called Serenade by Anita Hewitt-Jones. The girls had reached the final of the Music for Youth Festival and had to travel to Birmingham to compete against eleven other chamber groups, ranging in age from 9 to 13. They really impressed the adjudicators, both of whom agreed that the group played with intelligence and musicality beyond their years. They complimented the girls on the quality of their performance and the fact that they had memorised the music, thus enabling them to interact and communicate so effectively.
They were the youngest performers to receive an ‘outstanding' award for their performance and we will hear, later in the holidays, whether they have been invited to perform at the Royal Albert Hall.
All the girls are tought by Miss Pamela Moody and we are very proud of them all.
