North London girl plays chess for England

Sophia Sheera (6R) became the first North London pupil for many years to represent England at chess when she played in the annual East v West Girls Under 11 match held at Canons on 3rd May. Many congratulations to Sophia who won both her games, helping the East of England to a convincing win.

This is a fitting climax to a wonderful season for the Junior School Chess Squad.

Our Under 11 team of Sophia Sheera, Savannah Harper, Zimeng Wu and Amelia Bogert gained gold medals as champion girls' team in the Barnet School Jamboree.

In the Barnet league we finished 2nd in our division. Sophia Sheera, Savannah Harper, Zimeng Wu, Amelia Bogert, Darica Au, Shreya Rajani, Madeleine Kearns, Aanya Gardi, Taryn Onnie, Varuna Mitra, Anouk Wijeratne and Aneeka Shah area the proud possessors of silver medals to commemorate their wonderful achievements.

Sophia and Savannah also played for the Barnet Girls Under 11 team in the national championships where Barnet achieved their best result ever finishing runners up to a strong Kent team.
